Special Exhibition "Mount Fuji in Bloom, in Cloud, in Lakes"
The upcoming Special Exhibition "Mount Fuji in Bloom, in Cloud, in Lakes" will be on view from January 17 to May 10, 2026.
Mount Fuji stands as Japan's national emblem, inspiring awe both within the country and around the world. Throughout the changing seasons and times of day, the mountain reveals countless faces - from the iconic white peak capped with snow, to Red Fuji in the vermilion glow of the sun, a mirrored vision in tranquil lakes, and the radiant moment of Diamond Fuji when the sun crowns its summit. In Japanese, the name Fuji can also be written with different Chinese characters meaning "like no other," a fitting expression for the mountain's singular beauty.
This Special Exhibition brings together fifteen artworks of Mount Fuji depicted with flowers, clouds, and lakes. The ten artists represented are: Order of Culture laureates Yokoyama Taikan, Tasaki Hirosuke, and Kataoka Tamako; woodblock artist Sasajima Kihei; Nihonga (Japanese-style painting) artists Kawasaki Haruhiko, Oka Nobutaka, Kimura Keigo, and Hiramatsu Reiji; and artists of Western-style paintings Noda Yoshiko and Sakurai Takayoshi. Although each work portrays the same Mount Fuji, differing compositions and colors vividly reveal the distinct sensibilities of each artist.
These works invite you to experience the serene beauty and varied visions of Mount Fuji, surrounded by flowers, drifting clouds, and beside still waters.
